The Development Office

Donations to St. Columba’s College are managed by our Development Office, who use the funds for bursaries, capital projects and more.

Thank you for taking the time to visit this section of the College website.

A permanent Development Office at St. Columba’s College, was established in early 2017 to engage with the St Columba’s community, including Old Columbans, parents, past parents, pupils, staff and our wider circle of friends, to support the College’s capital developments, College bursaries and special projects.

With the assistance of the Development Office, I look forward to building and sustaining relationships with all our supporters and friends. Your philanthropic support is crucial in transforming the life of the College both now and long into the future.

St. Columba’s has a long and proud tradition of philanthropic support, dating as far back as its establishment in 1840s, when a group led by Reverend William Sewell established the College. Past developments have included the opening of the Library (1994), Grange Building (2004), which housesover 100 boarders, as well as classrooms and house staff accommodation, the refurbishment of the 19th century Argyle buildings (2006) in the heart of the College, and the opening of the old Cadogan Building (2008) as a new music school.

We are delighted to announce that our most recent development within the College, Whispering House, a social and cultural centre, has recently been official opened. This wonderful new addition to our campus has already become a key focal point of daily College life. This and future development projects require significant support from the St. Columba’s Community.

St. Columba’s College is a distinctive school and I feel privileged to be leading it into the next phase of its distinguished history. We can look back at our heritage with pride and look forward to the future with great purpose.

I thank you for your continued interest and support and look forward to working with you on our philanthropic endeavours over the months and years ahead.

“ The Old Columban Society Bursary Fund supported my family in our time of need for which I am hugely grateful. I now in turn am supporting the fund.”

“As a regular donor it gives me great satisfaction that my monthly donations are helping the children and grandchildren of Old Columbans to receive the many benefits of a Columban education.”

“ Giving back is an essential element of what it means to be an Old Columban. We all want to give our children the best opportunities and giving to the Bursary Fund can make a big difference to the life of a child.”

The Four Pillars

The aims of the St. Columba’s College Foundation are bound within four pillars: Sustainability, Classrooms, Bursaries & Campus enhancement.

The College Bursary Fund

True to the spirit of St Columba’s, our mission is to support young people who would like to attend the College but whose families are facing economic difficulties.

The College Bursary Fund offers direct support to prospective pupils to open up the opportunity of education at the College, by providing a grant towards their attendance. The College bursaries are awarded based on a number of criteria, with lack of financial means being a key requirement.  In contrast with the OCS Bursary Fund, these awards are open to those who have no previous connection to the College.

All donations to this Fund, irrespective of size, are very gratefully received.

Please note – Gifts over €21 or per month or €250 per year allow the College to claim an additional tax relief on this contribution amplifying the impact of your gift.

The OCS Bursary Fund

In addition to College Bursaries, the Old Columban Society established the OCS Bursary Fund in 2011 which specifically supports the children and grandchildren of Old Columbans (OCs).

For many and varying reasons, a number of OCs and their families have been unable to meet the full cost of College fees. The main purpose of the Fund is to offer financial assistance to these individuals. The Funds donated go directly to assisting in paying the College fees rather than paying the entire fee.

To maintain and nurture this Fund, the OCS encourages its members to commit to a suggested amount of €21* per month or €250 per year, or whatever they may be willing to donate.

Promotion of and donations to the OCSBF are managed through the Development Office.

The College and the Old Columban Society are most grateful for support to these Bursary Funds and wish to extend our thanks to all who have enabled our bursary pupils to flourish in the environment of St. Columba’s and on into their futures.

Please note: Gifts over €21 or per month or €250 per year allow the College to claim an additional tax relief on this contribution amplifying the impact of your gift.
