Sustainability Launch Day
On April 22nd, we marked the launch of our sustainability programme and partnership with GIY Ireland with a day of learning and hands-on activities for pupils and staff. The day began with an inspiring Chapel talk from Mick Kelly of GIY, followed by interactive sessions in Whispering House.
Built around our four key pillars—Energy, Water, Waste, and Biodiversity—the activities included pedal-powered energy demonstrations, the launch of reusable water bottles and new refill stations, recycling initiatives with BaxterStorey, and the introduction of the GIY Grow at School programme, complete with a planting activity for all pupils.
It was a lively and engaging start to our commitment to a more sustainable future. (sending you some pics separately for this).
Sustainability Appeal Fundraiser – Fundraising target: €65k
Building on the successful installation of 680 panels in 2023 which has generated 200,000 kWh of electricity each year, significantly reducing both our carbon footprint and energy costs, we’re now launching an ambitious project to power our sports hall and hockey pitch with clean, renewable energy—and we need your support to make it happen.
Our plan is to install a ground-mounted solar system with battery storage that will generate up to 45 kWp of energy—enough to supply the majority of our annual electricity needs. By capturing solar power during the day and storing it for evening use, we can keep the lights on for training and matches while dramatically reducing both costs and carbon emissions.
This system will:
- Power our sports facilities sustainably
- Cut reliance on the grid and rising energy costs
- Store energy for night-time pitch lighting
- Reduce our carbon footprint for future generations
With your help, we can transform how our facilities are powered—creating a greener, more resilient campus for our entire community. Be part of the change. Support this project and help us bring clean energy to life.
