St. Columba’s has a long and proud tradition of philanthropic support, dating as far back as its establishment in 1840s, when a group led by Reverend William Sewell established the College. Past developments have included the opening of the Library (1994), Grange Building (2004), which houses over 100 boarders, as well as classrooms and house staff accommodation, the refurbishment of the 19th century Argyle buildings (2006) in the heart of the College, and the opening of the old Cadogan Building (2008) as a new music school. More recently the Science Building was totally refitted in 2016 and our social centre, Whispering House, was opened in 2019.
We are delighted to announce that, with the launch of the St. Columba’s College Foundation this year, we have developed a fourfold vision for the future, involving the following pillars:
- Classrooms in the yard below Whispering House;
- The on-going upkeep of the campus as a whole;
- A move away from fossil fuels to try and establish a much more sustainable energy plan for the future;
- Bursaries to support some families who are struggling to pay the full fees, but also some further bursaries to offer substantial help to children whose parents would simply be unable to afford a boarding education at St. Columba’s College.
St. Columba’s College is a distinctive school and I feel privileged to be leading it into the next phase of its distinguished history. We can look back at our heritage with pride and look forward to the future with great purpose.
I thank you for your continued interest and support and look forward to working with you on our philanthropic endeavours over the months and years ahead.
